Areas we have to look at when we consider maintenance are; the oil, oil filter, coolants, brake systems, tyres, lights, and your battery.
For most of us (especially in Nigeria) it is unnecessary visits and expenses to a boring session at the mechanic’s workshop where we lose not just the time, money but sometimes car parts to uncanny autos technicians.
What if I told you, you have a way around all this and explain to you the magnificent savings you could get from spending on high maintenance of your car or other machinery?
I am about to get a little mathematical so those who had quarrels with your math teachers could skip to the summary at the bottom.
Let’s say Tony bought a car at 1.8 million Naira, drives around town, goes to work, visits friends and does all his running around with it.
Tony could easily be paying a bed of roses or a bed of thorns during his tenure with the car.
Fast-foward to a few years later, he could still have his car in optimum shape and might still want to keep it or trade-up to a newer model or he could have a whacky bag of parts he hauls around or worse even scrapped.
Its all based on his maintenance practice.
Ok, let me explain why, imagine he was always checks and maintains his automobile, does his oil changes on time, changes his tyres, coolant never runs dry, he is an amazing driver, always tends to faults immediately he recognizes one, he’d have spent more on preventive maintenance but would be saving a lot more in the sense that he never had to carry out breakdown maintenance (way more expensive) and could easily sell the car for almost the same amount he bought it.
In an alternate future he could have driven the car until it’s coolant ran dry, lost a tyre, used up his engine oil, blocked up his oil filter, knocked his engine, spoilt his drive shaft, and marred his car body with bumps scratches all over the places.
The outcome could be that he’d have spent a lot of time and money fixing breakdowns, blow outs and dents.
With a checkered history like that he’d probably not be able to sell off that car at half its price, if it’ll even be driveable.
Areas we have to look at when we consider maintenance are; the oil, oil filter, coolants, brake systems, tyres, lights, and your battery. These are parts you could easily diagnose and fix yourself without cruising in traffic and loosing petrol to to get to your mechanic to fix.
The question is, what kinda Tony are you?? Have a nice day folks, don’t forget to love your cars too.
